About the role and team

We have a rare opportunity for an experienced Associate or Senior Associate to join our highly regarded statutory insurance team in Brisbane.

Hall & Wilcox has a pre-eminent workers’ compensation practice nationally. We are one of the only firms to act in all workers’ compensation schemes across Australia.  Our team in Queensland is recognised as a leader in the defence of claims in the Queensland scheme, advising both WorkCover Queensland and many licenses self-insurers. We also act for several CTP insurers, both local and interstate, on claims arising in Queensland.

The successful candidate will work closely with an industry leading team, renowned for high performance and an inclusive culture.

You will act for:

• insured employers on behalf of WorkCover Queensland and self-insurers under both the Commonwealth and Queensland schemes;
• compulsory third-party insurers in the defence of claims arising in Queensland;
• institutions and their insurers in the defence of historical abuse claims; and
• other personal injury and general liability claims as they arise.

About you

You will ideally have the following skills and experience:

• between 4 and 8 years of post-admission experience in defendant insurance;
• experience in managing a portfolio workers’ compensation or personal injury claims in line with client KPIs;
• experience in the day-to-day management of files, the conduct of conferences and mediations and the conduct of trials;
• a proactive nature and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team;
• excellent technical, analytical and drafting skills with a keen attention to detail;
• excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• for senior candidates, a willingness to supervise, mentor and delegate to junior members of the team; and
• the ability to organise and prioritise effectively.

Experience working with a WorkCover Queensland panel law firm will be highly regarded.
