Early Careers
Smarter starts here
Reach your full potential at Hall & Wilcox.
We see today's clerks and graduates as tomorrow's leaders.
We have a range of programs for those new to the legal profession, including our Seasonal Clerkship Program, our First Nations Pathway Program, and our Graduate Program.
Paralegal opportunities
Are you an early year law student not yet eligible to apply for our clerkship or graduate programs? Curious about what it's like to work in a leading law firm and keen to get some exposure to real life legal work and clients?
From time-to-time we hire casual paralegals to work under supervising partners and senior lawyers on a range of legal matters. Our paralegals are given priority access to our Early Careers programs once they are eligible.
Submit your expression of interest here now to be considered for future opportunities.

Our commitment to diversity in the application process
Diversity is a vital component of our practice of Smarter Law.
We are committed to creating a diverse workforce and celebrating the characteristics that make each individual unique.
There’s no one ‘type’ of clerk that we look for - instead, we value people from different backgrounds, different experiences and with different perspectives.
We review applications in a way that seeks to eliminate ‘unconscious bias’. To do this, we do not look at candidate names, addresses, gender or secondary school information when we review seasonal clerkship applications.
Why? Everybody has inherent biases, and this means that, at times, people are not as open-minded to difference as we’d like.
We want to eliminate any unconscious or hidden bias in the shortlisting process. That’s why our application form might look a bit different to those used by other firms.
We are committed to ensuring that all candidates can participate fully in the recruitment process. If you require any support or adjustments, please let us know by emailing us at earlycareersrecruitment@hallandwilcox.com.au and we will be happy to assist.
The recruitment process
While our recruitment process and eligibility requirements may vary by Early Careers program, below is a guide as to what you can expect.
We are committed to ensuring that all candidates can participate fully in the recruitment process. If you require any support or adjustments, please let us know by emailing us at earlycareersrecruitment@hallandwilcox.com.au and we will be happy to assist.
Applications open
Submit your application, including your CV, academic transcript and cover letter, as well as answering a series of questions. Make sure you submit your application before the closing date, as it's a hard deadline!
Video interview
Depending on the program, if you are shortlisted, you may be asked to complete a video interview through the integrated Vieple platform.
Interview
We typically conduct one round of interviews, face-to-face. This is your opportunity to meet our people, put your best foot forward, and ask questions about Hall & Wilcox.
Networking event
Depending on the program, you may be invited to attend a Hall & Wilcox event, like our Cocktail Night. This is not a formal part of our recruitment process, but rather an opportunity for you to meet and network with our people and visit the office that, if successful, you will be working in.
Checks
We may conduct pre-employment checks, including background checks. Good news - we will not ask you to complete any assessments or psychometric testing!
Offer day
We make offers in line with our application dates or the dates prescribed by the relevant Law Society. Congratulations, you have received an offer! Onboarding then commences; let's start your Hall & Wilcox career... (smarter starts now!)
