About the role and team

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced AML/CTF and sanctions compliance professional to join Hall & Wilcox in a newly created senior management role.

As the firm's AML/CTF Compliance Officer, you will have overall responsibility for the ongoing operation, maintenance, monitoring and continuous improvement of the firm's AML/CTF compliance program, while also leading the firm's sanctions compliance framework and processes.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across the business, you will play a critical role in supporting the firm's regulatory compliance obligations and broader risk management framework while leading and shaping the firm's AML/CTF and sanctions compliance program at a strategic level. This is a unique opportunity to drive compliance excellence and influence key risk management initiatives across the firm.

You will be responsible for:

• leading and overseeing the firm's AML/CTF compliance program, policies, procedures and reporting framework;
• managing sanctions screening, risk assessment, escalation and compliance processes across clients, matters and other relevant parties;
• providing strategic guidance on AML/CTF and sanctions compliance, including client due diligence, onboarding and suspicious matter reporting;
• acting as the firm's primary point of contact for AUSTRAC and other relevant regulators and agencies;
• monitoring regulatory developments and driving continuous improvement of AML/CTF and sanctions controls and processes; and
• delivering training, guidance and reporting to stakeholders across the firm, including senior management, the Board and Risk Committee.

About you

You will ideally have the following skills and experience:

• a legal qualification, with AML/CTF certifications such as CAMS viewed favourably;
• significant experience in AML/CTF compliance within a law firm, professional services environment, financial institution or similar regulated industry;
• strong knowledge of Australian AML/CTF legislation, including the Tranche Two reforms, and Australian sanctions compliance requirements;
• demonstrated experience managing compliance frameworks, risk assessments, sanctions screening and escalation processes;
• excellent analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills;
• exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders; and
• a proactive, detail-oriented approach with a commitment to promoting a strong culture of compliance and risk management.
